Silicon Dreams is a collaborative series created by Peter Layton, Graham Diprose, and Peter Cannings.
Peter Layton is a well recognized international creative artist working in a variety of media. He originally studied ceramics at Central School of Art & Design and subsequently established a reputation as a respected teacher and lecturer in Britain and the USA. Widely exhibited with works in major collections around the world Peter has always been at the forefront of experimentation and creative endeavour; no more so than in this exciting and innovative new development.
Graham Diprose worked as an advertising photographer in Central London. Clients included Renault Cars, Sharps Bedroom Furniture, Nestle. Currently, Graham is the Lead Tutor in Photography and Course Director on the Graduate Diploma in Digital Lens Based Image-making in the School of Graphic Design at London College of Communication (LCC), University of the Arts London. Graham has long held an interest in experimenting both inside and outside photography and collaborated with Mike Seabourne, Museum of London and Charles Craig, former Dean of the School of Media at LCC on London’s Found Riverscape, a continuous panorama of over 10 miles of London’s Dockland riverbank, published as a book and exhibition. This led to a project making giant digital pictures and presently his picture of Gas Street Basin, Birmingham, UK at 246 million pixels is the largest digital image worldwide taken from a single lens position. A new project with English Heritage “in the footsteps of Henry Taunt” with updated views of the Victorian River Thames will output as a book and exhibition in Autumn 2007.
Peter Cannings originally trained in 3-demential design, studying Industrial Design at Central School of art & Design and Furniture Design at the Royal College of Art and practiced as a freelance designer/maker for a number of years working on a range of commercial and domestic projects in Furniture and Interior Design. As an academic, Peter played an instrumental role in helping establish the viability and integration of digital media as a core element in the graphic design curriculum at LCC. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Peter has maintained an active practice both as a respected professional in digital media training and as a freelance consultant and digital designer and illustrator, working with a variety of high profile British and international clients. He is currently the the Course Director on the Graduate Diploma in Digital Design at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London.
